As ‘realistic’ as it may look, this incredible painting is simply part of a new exhibition of four dimensional art in North East China. The collection of paintings, on display at a contemporary art exhibition in the Jilin province, uses techniques similar to the ‘stand-up’ advertising hoardings that are sometimes painted on the edges of sports pitches. The pieces are a huge hit with spectators who have already shown a talent for interacting with the works to become part of the art themselves.

50 Amazingly Creative Paintings by Josh Keyes

Josh Keyes was born in Tacoma, Washington. He received a BFA in 1992 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in 1998 from Yale University. Keyes currently lives and works in Portland Oregon.
Josh Keyes‘ style is reminiscent of the diagrammatic vocabulary found in scientific textbook illustrations that often express through a detached and clinical viewpoint an empirical representation of the natural world. Assembled into this virtual stage set are references to contemporary events along with images and themes from his personal mythology. Josh Keyes’ work is a hybrid of eco-surrealism and dystopian folktales that express a concern for our time and the Earth’s future.

This couple were watched on Frantz Josef Land. Bear mama was very angry with her cub when it couldn't jump well, growled at it, though it looked very cute.

Iceland: Ice And Fog

Last time we just started to see peaceful landscapes of Iceland, today we'll see more of those charmed by fog and ice.

Waterfalls of Norway

This post is devoted to picturesque waterfalls of Norway.
"Seven sisters" waterfall in Geyraneger Fjord.

The Blood Fall Of Antarctica

Do you see the red liquid flowing out of the Taylor Glacier in Antarctida? The color is obtained due to a high amount of iron oxide in the water.

Salty water rich in iron leaves a small fissure at the Taylor Glacier. The Blood Waterfall takes its water from a nearby lake covered with a layer of ice which is 400 meters deep.
The lake appeared in the result of sea water retroversion and covering the place with ice 4-1.5 million years ago. That time the level of the world ocean was much higher than it is now.
Salt content in the water 4 times exceeds the one in the ocean. That's why the water in the fall never freezes even if the temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius.
This beautiful waterfall was discovered in 1911. First researchers in Antarctica thought the color was obtained due to red alga and found out the true reason later. Iron oxide in the water is a result of metabolism observed in unique microorganisms. Having analyzed chemical composition of the water scientists could prove that the lake is inhabited by organisms which are supplied with vital energy by reconstructing sulfites from sulphates with their subsequent oxidation by ions of trivalents iron entering the water from the mud line.
Bivalent iron ions which form the final product of bacterial metabolism and leave the fissure at the Taylor Glacier are combined with oxygen producing the red color. The unique ecosystem allows to believe that it's possible to preserve life under similar conditions on other planets covered with ice as well.
Video is not available yet as not many tourists visit the place and the waterfall appears only from time to time.

Hot Springs Of Pamukkale

Hot springs have been known to people since ancient times. Water descending hillslopes forms a cascade of reservoirs with limestone walls. Extremely white terraces were formed in the result of salt deposition from springs which are rich in calcium.
Walking along the terraces if forbidden. The only exception is formed by an area that was particularly chosen for tourists where even swimming is permitted.
The mountains can be attended 24 hours a day.
Ruins of an ancient city Hierapolis are located close to the hot springs.
Cleopatra pool with mineral water is also open for tourists. According to the legend, the Egyptian queen used to swim here.
Roman bath-house built here and later destroyed by an earthquake was substituted for the pool.
An amphitheater is one of three ancient amphitheaters in Turkey. It can embrace 15000 spectators.
The largest necropolis in Turkey is also situated in Hierapolis.
Pamukkale has 17 different kinds of hot springs. Its temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius.

Fantastic Glass Beach of California

Usually when a person throws out litter he/she influences the nature in a negative way. Heaps of litter are not useful, they spoil not only the air, soil and water but also harm the aesthetic look of the natural beauty. Could you ever think of any exceptions to this rule?
There is one interesting place - Glass Beach, Fort Bragg, California, USA. This place is amazing. In the 60s the junkyard was closed and the litter just lived its life. Heaps of broken glass, plastic and other litter were just lying under the California sun washed by the sea waves and blown by the sea breezes.

Giant Crystals Underground

Cueva de los Cristales - the cave of Crystals is situated in the mining complex Naica, in the Mexican desert of Chihuahua state 300 m underground. Not made by hand miracle appeared as a result of natural creation, unique temperature conditions and natural obstruction of the area that wasn't interrupted for many millions of years. The amazing cave was found in 2000 by two brothers of Sanchez who were driving a new tunnel. Humidity reaches 100% here, the temperature is 58 C, that is why one may stay here safely without special equipment only for 6-10 minutes. Otherwise he may have a thermal shock and jump-in pressure. The cave of Swords was found later, and despite the fact it's a bit smaller it also impresses by its splendour. Huge crystals reach 15 m in length and 1,5 m in diameter. The weight of giants is more than 55 tons!

Blue lagoon - spa center that is located not far from the international airport Keflavik - it is usually visited right after and before arrival/departure, cause it is an ideal place to relax, bathe in hot water. The lagoon is partially natural phenomenon: a huge lake of hot water in the middle of the lava field appeared as a result of work of the geometrical power plant supplying Reykjavik with energy. In 1999 it was turned into the spa complex. Let's visit it today.
Right from the airport one may get to the complex by flybus. A ticket costs 20 euros, for additional pay one may get a towel and a bathrobe. The passage to the complex is cut off right in the plutonic rocks.

Perhaps in the list of must visit places of each tourist coming to Japan climbing Fuji is a necessary item. The season of Fuji climbing is open from July to the end of August. Later one may climb only with a guide.

These ones go up.
Those go down.

And the peak finally!
It was the last part of the ascent.
The higher you go the more expensive things become. Remember this.

Do you want to climb Fuji too? Do it until it erupts for the next time.

The Voice of Faeroe Islands

It is hard to choose words to desribe the nature of Faeroe Islands. The local vocalist Unn Patursson will tell better about her motherland in her song. The song is called Fjart í ringrás. Find and listen to it.
She sings that once the God of vikings spilled a handful of stones on the waters of the Northern Atlantic and everything that remained on the surface was called Faeroe Islands. That trees and bushes don't grow here. That only stones and soft plush moss are around. That the grass is emerald green due to high humidity and lack of sun light.
That the skies over Faeroe is so low that if you want to climb a cloud you may jump on it from the nearest mountain. She sings about thick frequent fogs that turn out to be the dull sky...
The song is very touching, even if you don't know the Faeroe language it will seem that you understand what it is about.

Hamilton Pool - True Beauty

37 km away from Austin (Texas, the USA) there is one of the most unusual and picturesque lakes in the world - Hamilton Pool. It's unsual because it is an undergroud and ground lake at the same time. The beauty is contributed by the waterfall falling from 15m height. The lake formed thousands of years ago due to the fall of a calciferous dome fold of the underground river caused by heavy erosion. The waters of the underground river fall into the river flowing nearby - the Pedernales river which, in its turn, is a tributary of the Colorado river.

Cyprus: Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque And Salt Lake

Cyprus: Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque And Salt Lake 1
One of the most interesting peculiarities of Larnaca can be noticed already at the airport. It's a big salt lake with the area of 2km2. In winter it fills up with water and attracts numerous birds, in summer it dries out and its salty surface crunches under your feet. At the shore of the lake, somewhere in palm trees and cypresses, there is a minaret of one of the main Islamic shrines - Mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke.

Downs of Namibia

Namib desert where the downs are situated is considered to be the most ancient in the world! The downs have been formed due to strong winds that brought sand from Kalahari desert. The downs may be 100-150 m high, the highest may reach 350-400 m. Despite the fact that Namib almost has no moisture at all (10-13mm a year), many animals inhabit the desert: antelopes, jackals, snakes etc. The downs are constantly changing, i.e. the top changes its position, but the down itself doesn't move no matter what they say.

After the Eruption of Merapi Volcano

Almost a year ago, in October, 30th, began an eruption of Merapi volcano on Java island. Yogyakarta city that is 26 km away from Merapi was covered with a thick layer of volcanic dust. The airport was closed, locals moved wherever they could. The government evacuated about 75 000 people. Most people died in the night when the eruption began, people were sleeping and couldn't notice the fires brought by the fire stones. The volcanic dust reached the temperature of 600 C. About 350 people died.
Let's look how the village Kinahrejo looked this spring.

Red Heart of Australia

Uluru is a massive orange-brown rock of an oval shape that formed 680 million years ago in Australia. It's situated in the region called "Central Australia" - the utmost southern administrative district on the Northern Territory in the centre of the continent. The length of Uluru is 3.6 km, width - 3 km, height - 348 m.

Uluru has a considerable spiritual meaning for aboriginals. At the foot there is a huge banner asking people not to climb the holy mountain because ancient traditions and beliefs don't permit it. But it doesn't actually stops people who even in really hot weather try to make a dangerous climb. To minimize the number of accidents here was placed a handrail.
Memorable plates with names of those who died here trying to climb the mountain.

The Image of the Perfect Desert

Desert is probably the most beautiful thing ever created by nature. There are many places on Earth that blow our minds, but deserts are something special indeed. Nowhere else you feel the infinity of the universe more than here. Nowhere else you feel you are a part of nature more than here. Nowhere else you forget everything fake and unnecessary more than here. Extraterrestrial landscapes and remoteness from the civilization make you have a fresh look of yourself and the world around you.
Sahara is a perfect picture of a desert. Yes, some other deserts may look in a different way, but the traditional look of a desert means yellow sand dunes, black rocks and caravans of camels. That is what Sahara is.

Flowers By Weight

At the city market of Bangkok flowers are sold like vegetables and fruits - by weight. Seems they are used not for decoration but like food.

Awesomely Realistic Paintings by Joe Simpson

Joe Simpson is a figurative painter currently living and working in London. His paintings have been shown both nationally and internationally, including prestigious venues such as Urbis, Manchester City Art Gallery, Cornerhouse and The House of Commons.   Joe works primarily in oil paint to create realistic images that utilise the conventions of cinematography to present ‘staged’, fictitious scenes where time has been stopped and extended.  These frozen moments are deliberately ambiguous, inviting the viewer to inject their own emotions, motivations and narrative context into the scene, thereby avoiding limiting interpretation.
Joe has completed several large scale commissions for prestigious clients, including a series of paintings for P&O, Standard Chartered and the Professional Football Association. His work is owned by notable collectors and celebrities.  His largest exhibition ‘Almost There’ received funding from the Arts Council England and corporate sponsorship from Audio Technica.
